Goofy Fundraiser!

Mr. Anderer and Mr. Kovatch have both decided to do a goofy fundraiser which hopefully will be fun for the boys, and help us raise needed funds for the pack.  Both leaders will dye their hair a funny color for the Blue and Gold Banquet, if each receive $500 in donations before then.

Below is a video where Mr. Kovatch announces his part of the fundraiser.  I hope you all enjoy this, and help us raise needed funds.

Pinewood Derby

Pack 95's annual Pinewood Derby will be Saturday, January 26 starting at 8:30am.

This year, we are doing the Pinewood Derby all on our own!  We will be doing family races as well!  The cubs race for free.  Family members will be charged an entry fee to defray the cost of the car kit and the awards from the derby.

We will have the following divisions:
Cub Scouts (Tigers, Wolves and Bears race as one division this year) - no entrance fee
Webelos - no entrance fee
Siblings aged 11 and younger - $6 entrance fee
Adults and siblings aged 12 and over - $10 entrance fee

In the end, the Cub Scout Division winner will race against the Webelos Division winner to crown a pack winner who will race against Pack 1509's winner for the coveted Ol' Murph.

The pack winner will also race the winner of the sibling and adult division for bragging rights.

Families will be asked to sign-up to bring breakfast items to share.  We are not going to sell concessions as a fund raiser, but instead share breakfast items and ask if families wish to donate of their own free will to defray the cost of awards.

Sign-up Items:

Milk
Orange Juice
Coffee/Tea
Muffins
Bagels
Other Breakfast Pastries

Sign-up will be through the Pack's Facebook Page.

We are  asking for adult volunteers to show up Friday night to set-up the track and to stay Saturday after the derby to pack up and clean up.

Pack 95 to Visit George Mason Men's Basketball!

On Saturday, January 19, 2013, Pack 95 will be going to see George Mason play Hofstra at 5:00pm at the Patriot Center.  Tickets are $16.30 each.  But, we can get a group rate of $10 if 20 or more of us attend.  But, watch this space.  Mr. Anderer and Mr. Kovatch will be soon announcing a fund raiser which, if successful, could fund our trip to the game!

Holiday Party!

Pack 95's Holiday Party will be Saturday, December 8th starting at 6:00pm.  We will be holding the party at Bethany Lutheran Church.  Have you been good?  Look for a special guest that evening!

We are asking families to bring a dessert to share.

Each den will be asked to lead us in two holiday songs.

This will be the boys' chance to vote on the theme for the annual Blue and Gold Banquet, and the follow-up trip in March.  Here are the proposed themes:

Anchors Away!  Everything about the Sea, with a follow-up trip to our nation's Naval Academy in Annapolis.
Jurassic Party!  Dinosaurs, with a follow-up trip to the Smithsonian Natural History Museum.
These Aren't the Droids You're Looking For.  Robots, with a follow-up trip to the Maryland Science Center in Baltimore.

We will have boxes representing each theme.  Each boy will get a piece of candy, and will vote by placing that piece of candy in the box.

Scouting for Food Coming Up

Our annual Scouting for Food drive is coming up!  We will pass out bags on Saturday, November 3, and pick up food donations on Saturday, November 10.  We will meet at the Groveton Elementary School parking lot at 8:00am on both days.

Next Pack Meeting

The next Pack Meeting is Tuesday, October 23, 2012 at 7:00.  We meet at Groveton Elementary School.

Family Fest at Bethany Lutheran Church

We've been invited to participate in Bethany Lutheran Church's Family Fest on Sunday, October 28, 2012.  Family Fest is a barbecue celebration that follows the one service on Reformation Sunday.  I've told the organizers that after enjoying the event, our boys would be willing to stay a little after to pick up litter.  This is a good opportunity to do a little service for our charter organization and get some visibility for the pack.

The worship service starts at 10:00am.  Family Fest is slated to start around 11:00.  Please come, enjoy and have the boys wear uniforms.

Bethany is located at 2501 Beacon Hill Road, Alexandria, VA 22306.

Our web site, cubpack95.org, has good information on where to buy uniforms, as well as our calendar for the school year.

Pow Wow

POW-WOW!  An excellent event to learn all sorts of new things to put on a fantastic program for the boys.  Get into the nitty gritty, like new songs, new craft ideas, how to approach scouts with special needs, how to put on fabulous ceremonies.  This year, it will be November 17 at Annandale High School.

More information at this website:

http://www.boyscouts-ncac.org/pow-wow/23556

Camp Snyder Expo

Camp Snyder Expo!  Want another chance to do some great outdoor activities with your cub?  Try the Camp Snyder Expo on October 20.  It will be between 10:00 and 4:00.  Available activities include a rock wall, shooting sports, rides and games.  Food vendors will be present.  Price is $5 if you register by September 30, and $8 after that.

Here's the website:

BALOO (Outdoor Program) Training

BALOO (Basic Adult Leader Outdoor Orientation) training will be held on November 17 at the Coast Guard Station starting at 9:00am and lasting through 4:00pm.  This is an excellent chance to leanr how to put on a really rocking outdoor program!  Bring a lunch.

Note that the pack must have a BALOO trained person at each outdoor pack event.  So far, we have only one BALOO trained adult.  If you really want to help out your pack, please attend BALOO.  Having at least two BALOO trained adults gives the pack much more flexibility.

Cub Scout Leader Trainer

The next live, in person training for cub scout leaders will be Saturday, September 22, starting at 8:00am.  It will be held at St. Mary's Lyceum on Duke Street in Old Town Alexandria.  Be careful!  It is easy to get this confused with the Lyceum on Washington Street, or St. Mary's Church.

There is limited parking in a lot across the street.

I would expect a cost, but likely less than $10.

Trainees will be divided into:  Tigers, Wolves and Bears, Webelos, and Cubmasters and Committee Members.

Each adult leader should be trained in their position.  Plus, if you have already completed the online training, I would highly recommend doing the live training anyway, as this is an excellent opportunity to learn from a live person who has experience and can answer your real world questions.

Webel-O-Ree

Webel-O-Ree Information:  October 20 & 21 at Sky Meadows.  You can camp-out October 19.  Program starts at 10:00am.  Parents should participate with their Webelo.  But, if you cannot, you can leave your boy with a registered leader.  A registered leader can only be responsible for one child in addition to their own.

****Update****
